Natural Rubber (NR) production decreased by 0.1 per cent in March 2023 (27,188 tonnes) as compared to February 2023 (27,209 tonnes). Year-on-year comparison showed that the production of NR increased by 10.8 per cent (March 2022: 24,549 tonnes). The production of NR in March 2023 for Malaysia was mainly contributed by smallholders sector (88.0%) as compared to estates sector (12.0%).
Total stocks of NR in March 2023 increased by 6.3 per cent to 203,372 tonnes as compared to 191,296 tonnes in February 2023. Rubber processors factory contributed 91.1 per cent of the stocks followed by rubber consumers factory (8.8%) and rubber estates (0.1%).
Exports of Malaysia's NR amounted to 45,789 tonnes in March 2023, decreased 5.4 per cent as against February 2023 (48,393 tonnes). P.R. China remained as the main destination for NR exports which accounted 50.8 per cent of total exports in March 2023 followed by Germany (14.7%), Türkiye (4.2%), Pakistan (2.4%) and Egypt (1.7%).
Analysis of the average monthly price showed that Latex Concentrated recorded a decrease of 1.6 per cent (March 2023: 530.11 sen per kg; February 2023: 538.55 sen per kg) while Scrap decreased by 1.2 per cent (March 2023: 468.68 sen per kg; February 2023: 474.50 sen per kg). Prices for all Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R) decreased between 1.5 per cent to 1.7 per cent.
The performance of the first
quarter of 2023 showed natural rubber production decreased by 7.2 per cent to
83,848 tonnes as compared to 90,399 tonnes in the fourth quarter of 2022. The
annual performance of Malaysia's natural rubber production in the first quarter
of 2023 recorded a decrease of 17.0 per cent as compared to the 2022 (101,045
tonnes).
