Malaysian
well-being increased 2.5 per cent in 2022 contributed by positive growth of
economic and social well-being
Malaysian Well-being in 2022 represents the endemic and
recovering phases of the COVID-19. The reopening of border which started in
April 2022 has positive impact to sub-components of well-being. MyWI
performance in 2022 improved by 2.5 per cent to 121.2 points as compared to
118.3 points in 2021. Both well-being sub-composites showed an increase in
2022. The economic well-being sub-composite recorded an increase of 3.6 per
cent in 2022 to 130.0 points as compared to 125.5 points in 2021 and the social
well-being sub-composite increased by 1.8 per cent to 116.4 points in the same
period.The sub-composite of economic and social well-being also recorded an
increase of 4.5 and 2.1 index points respectively in the same period.
The finding showed that all components recorded an increase
in the sub-composite index of economic well-being, transportation (8.0%),
income and distribution (5.0%), education (4.1%), communications (0.5%) and
working life (0.4%).
Six components in the sub-composite index of social
well-being, namely entertainment and recreation grew 20.8 per cent, culture
(6.5%), environment (3.4%), housing (1.6%), health (1.3%) and family (0.8%).
Meanwhile, the public safety component decreased by 9.4 per cent, followed by
governance (-2.3%) and social participation (-0.08%).

Well-Being Index increased 21.2 index points over the past 22 years
The economic well-being sub-composite index rose by 30.0
index points for the period of 2022 as compared to 2021. The social well-being
sub-composites index increased by 16.4 index points for the same period.
Overall, MyWI increased by 21.2 index points over the past 22 years.

Well-Being Index Performance by State
Overall, the State Well-being Index performance for all states recorded an
increase in the index points in 2022. The three states that recorded the
highest index points were Perlis with 2.9 index points to 115.2 points in 2022
as compared to 112.3 points in 2021, followed by Sarawak 2.8 index points to
119.5 points in 2022 as compared to 116.7 points in 2021 and Perak 2.4 index
points to 118.5 points as compared to 116.1 points in the same period.
