At the end of September 2016, the level of Malaysia's net international investment recorded net assets position of RM26.5 billion compared to net liabilities of RM4.9 billion registered previous quarter. Total financial assets expanded to RM1,636.3 billion while total liabilities recorded RM1,609.9 billion. Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) stock amounted to RM539.8 billion at the end of Q3 2016 (Q2 2016: RM515.8 billion). Meanwhile Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock in Malaysia accounted for RM525.5 billion at the end of September 2016 (Q2 2016: RM508.6 billion).

At the end of Q3 2016, portfolio investment showed net liabilities position of RM338.1 billion from net liabilities of RM351.7 billion in the previous quarter. In the meantime, other investment at the end of Q3 2016 recorded net liabilities of RM56.8 billion. The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia at the 30 September 2016 stood at RM404.9 billion (Q2 2016: RM390.3 billion).
