As at end of September 2017, the level of Malaysia’s net international investment recorded a net assets position of RM21.5 billion. Total financial assets position narrowed by 1.1 per cent to RM1,698.0 billion (Q2 2017: RM1,717.2 billion), while the total liabilities increased by RM1.8 billion to post RM1,676.6 billion (Q2 2017:RM1,674.8 billion). Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) position recorded RM554.0 billion at the end of Q3 2017 (Q2 2017: RM573.5 billion) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Malaysia posted a value of RM558.7 billion (Q2 2017: RM556.7 billion).

Portfolio investment showed net liabilities position of RM331.0 billion, decreased by RM13.0 billion from Q2 2017. Meanwhile, the stock of other investment posted a net liabilities position of RM73.0 billion. The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia as at end of September 2017 stood at RM427.7 billion (Q2 2017: RM424.8 billion).
