LFPR increased to 68.0% in May 2014 
 
   
Labour force participation rate marked at 67.3 per cent in April 2014, went up from 66.9 per cent in the previous month. The increase of 0.4 percentage point is an extension of the increase of population in the labour market by 0.5 per cent. Those people aged 20-24 years was the main contributor to this increment, that amounted to 103,700 persons.   Year-on-year comparison showed that the labour force participation rate was higher 0.9 percentage point than 66.4 per cent in April 2013.
 
 
Notes:· Labour Force Survey (LFS) is conducted to collect information on the structure and distribution of labour force, employment and unemployment.
· The LFS covers both urban and rural areas of all states in Malaysia through the personal interview method.
The survey population is defined to cover persons who live in private living quarters and hence excludes persons residing in institutions such as hotels, hostels, hospitals, prisons, boarding houses and military barracks.
 

 
 
 
Unemployment rate declined to 2.9% 
 

The unemployment rate stood at 2.9 per cent in April 2014, down 0.1 percentage point from 3.0 per cent in the previous month. The reduction was found as a result from the rise of 161,200 employed persons in the Manufacturing sector.
 
Year on year comparison indicated that the unemployment rate was comparatively lower by 0.1 percentage point from 3.0 per cent in April 2013.
 
Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained  no difference with the actual figure of 2.9 per cent.
