MALAYSIA EXTERNAL TRADE INDICES JUNE 2015

MONTH-ON-MONTH COMPARISON:

Exports

Malaysia’s export value recorded a rise of 6.3% to RM64.3 billion where the export volume index posted an increase of 4.7% to 104.9 points. The increase was mainly due to animal & vegetable oils & fats (+16.2%), chemicals (+7.6%) and machinery & transport equipment (+7.4%).

Similarly, the export unit value index increased 1.5% to 138.4 points which was mainly contributed by mineral fuels (+5.0%), machinery & transport equipment (+1.1%) and chemicals (+1.0%).

In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index in June 2015 rose 4.4% to 106.8 points.

 

Imports

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s total value of imports for Jun 2015 grew 2.4% to RM56.3 billion where the import volume index increased 0.8% to 120.0 points. This expansion was led by manufactured goods (+9.3%), chemicals (+7.3%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+5.4%).

Similarly, the import unit value index recorded an increase of 1.3% to 131.9 points.  The increase was attributed to chemicals (+0.9%), manufactured goods (+0.7%) and machinery & transport equipment (+0.6%).

In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index increased 3.3% to 119.3 points.

 

YEAR-ON-YEAR COMPARISON:

Exports

Compared with June 2014, Malaysia’s export value posted an expansion of 5.0% from RM61.2 billion where the export volume index rose 4.6% from 100.4 points. The rise was led by animal & vegetable oils & fats (+34.8%), manufactured goods (+15.8%) and chemicals (+9.4%).

Similarly, the export unit value index also recorded an increase of 0.4% from 137.9 points. The increase was due to miscellaneous manufactured articles (+4.5%), chemicals (+4.3%) and machinery & transport equipment (+4.3%).

 

Imports

In June 2015, Malaysia’s import value decreased 1.5% from RM57.1 billion where the import volume index dropped 1.8% from 122.1 points. This decrease was mainly registered in mineral fuels (-30.6%) and machinery & transport equipment (-1.8%).

Meanwhile, the import unit value index increased marginally 0.05% from 131.8 points which was due to chemicals (+2.2%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+1.7%) and machinery & transport equipment (+1.7%).

 

TERMS OF TRADE

In Jun 2015, Malaysia’s terms of trade increased by 0.3% to 104.9 points as compared with the preceding month. The increase was attributed to inedible crude material (+3.5%), food (+0.9%) and machinery & transport equipment (+0.5%).

On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade increased 0.3% from 104.6 points. Beverages & tobacco increased 3.7%, followed by manufactured goods (+3.1%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+2.7%).
