MONTH-ON-MONTH COMPARISON:
Exports
In May 2015, Malaysia’s export value recorded an increase of 0.1% to RM60.5 billion where the export volume index rose 0.6% to 100.2 points. The rise was mainly contributed by animal & vegetable oils & fats (+21.9%), mineral fuels (+13.7%) and machinery & transport equipment (+0.1%).
However, the export unit value index recorded a decrease of 0.5% to 136.3 points. The decrease was attributed to mineral fuels (-5.0%) and animal & vegetable oils & fats (-0.3%).

Seasonally adjusted figure
In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index increased 1.4% to 102.3 points.
Imports
In May 2015, Malaysia’s total import value registered an increase of 2.7% to RM54.9 billion where the import volume index rose 3.0% to 119.0 points. This was led by mineral fuels (+20.3%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+10.9%) and chemicals (+2.8%).
Similarly, the import unit value index increased marginally by 0.1% to 130.2 points. This was mainly contributed by chemicals (+0.6%) and machinery & transport equipment (+0.3%).

Seasonally adjusted figure
In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index in May 2015 increased 1.2% to 115.4 points.
YEAR-ON-YEAR COMPARISON:
Exports
Malaysia’s export value decreased 6.7% from RM64.8 billion where the export volume index registered a decrease of 5.3% from 105.9 points. The decrease was mainly due to mineral fuels (-15.7%), chemicals (-6.0%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-4.3%).
Similarly, the export unit value index decreased 1.7% from 138.6 points. The decrease was mainly due to mineral fuels (-18.7%) and animal & vegetable oils & fats (-12.8%).
Imports
In May 2015, the import value posted a decrease of 7.2% from RM59.2 billion where the import volume index dropped 6.3% from 127.0 points. The decrease was mainly due to mineral fuels (-20.1%), manufactured goods (-7.4%) and chemicals (-4.1%).
Similarly, the import unit value index decreased 0.6% from 131.1 points. This was attributed to mineral fuels (-16.8%) and animal & vegetable oils & fats (-5.1%).
TERMS OF TRADE
In May 2015, Malaysia’s terms of trade recorded a decrease of 0.6% to 104.6 points when compared to the previous month. The decrease was mainly registered in mineral fuels (-4.1%), food (-0.8%) and animal & vegetable oils & fats (-0.2%).
On a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade decreased 1.0% from 105.7 points. The decline was mainly recorded in animal & vegetable oils & fats (-8.1%) and mineral fuels (-6.3%).
