Manufacturing sector registered a sales value of RM62.3 billion in February 2018

Malaysia’s February manufacturing sales recorded a growth of  4.9 per cent, rising to  RM62.3 billion as compared to RM59.4 billion reported a year ago.

Year-on-year, the significant increase in sales value in February 2018 was due to the increase in Electrical and Electronic Products (5.7%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (6.6%) and Non-metallic Mineral Products, Basic Metal and Fabricated Metal Products (5.1%). These three sub-sectors contributed 80.4 per cent to the sales value of the manufacturing sector.

Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in February 2018 was  1,065,849 persons, an increase of  2.2 per cent or 22,900 persons as compared to 1,042,949 persons in February 2017.

Salaries & wages paid rose  16.7 per cent (RM537.6 million) to record  RM3,758.8 million, thus registering an average salaries & wages per employee of  RM3,527 in February 2018.

Sales value per employee gain  2.6 per cent to record  RM58,494 as compared with the same month of the previous year.
