In the second quarter of 2024, the total revenue of the services sector recorded RM607.1 billion, registering a positive growth of 6.8 per cent as compared to the same quarter in 2023. The increase was driven by Wholesale & retail trade, food & beverage, and accommodation segment, which collectively contributed RM461.4 billion, increased 6.4 per cent. On a quarterly basis, total revenue registered a growth of 2.1 per cent.

The total number of persons engaged in this sector amounted to 4.5 million persons, an increase of 1.7 per cent against the corresponding period of the previous year. For quarterly comparison, the number of persons engaged rose 0.5 per cent.

Salaries and wages in the second quarter of 2024 posted a growth of 3.5 per cent to reach RM32.6 billion compared to the same quarter a year ago. Compared with first quarter of 2024, salaries and wages increased 1.0 per cent.
