STATISTICS OF MALAYSIA'S DIRECT INVESTMENT ABROAD (DIA) 2024

Malaysia’s Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) recorded a higher net outflow amounting to RM33.9 billion in 2024, compared to RM30.1 billion in 2023. DIA income climbed to RM43.2 billion (2023: RM40.9 billion), while DIA position declined fromRM638.8 billion in 2023 to RM622.1 billion in 2024 as at the end of 2024.

Focusing on the key sectors contributing to Malaysia’s DIA net outflow, Services sector accounted for the largest outflows with RM28.7 billion. The outflows also contributed by Mining & quarrying and Construction sectors with RM4.3 billion and RM1.4 billion, respectively.

Pertaining to the income from Malaysia’s DIA, the Services sector led with a total income of RM31.4 billion. This was followed by the Mining & quarrying sector, recording RM5.3 billion, and followed by the Manufacturing sector with an income of RM3.5 billion.

Similarly, the Services sector also remained the major contributor for DIA position, totalling RM463.7 billion as compared to RM459.6 billion in 2023. This was trailed by Mining & quarrying sector (RM66.1 billion) and Agriculture (RM46.5 billion).

In term of region, Asia was the largest contributor for DIA flows with a value of RM26.5 billion, primarily directed towards Singapore and Indonesia. Asia also generated the highest income from DIA in 2024, amounting to RM26.6 billion. As at the end of 2024, Asia region remained ahead of other regions with DIA position of RM349.7 billion.
