VOLUME INDEX OF WHOLESALE & RETAIL TRADE FIRST QUARTER 2024

Volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade registered a growth of 3.7 per cent to reach 152.8 points in the first quarter of 2024, as compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The positive quarterly growth was attributed to Motor Vehicles with 4.7 per cent, followed by Retail Trade and Wholesale Trade with 3.8 per cent and 3.5 per cent, respectively. Conversely, for quarter-on-quarter comparison, volume index inched down -0.1 per cent in this quarter.

For seasonally adjusted volume index, Wholesale & Retail Trade rebounded 0.9 per cent as against the fourth quarter of 2023, driven by Wholesale Trade (1.5%) and Retail Trade (1.3%).
